The Swanson Center is a leading plastic surgery facility specializing in cosmetic and laser surgery. Hundreds of cosmetic procedures are performed annually.

In the mid-1990s, the Swanson Center pioneered the use of laser skin resurfacing in combination with facelift surgery. In an original study published in 2011, Dr. Swanson demonstrated that facelift surgery could effectively reduce people’s apparent age, in some cases by over a decade. Dr. Swanson is one of the early proponents of combining facelifts with fat transfer, and the same year published a widely-cited study that revealed the lasting benefits of simultaneous facial fat injection using MRIs.

In 1995, the Swanson Center performed its first endoscopic forehead lift. The use of endoscopic technique and instruments has revolutionized forehead rejuvenation.

The Swanson Center introduced ultrasonic liposuction to Kansas City in 1997. This technique had been developed and refined over the previous decade in Europe. Over 3,000 men and women have had ultrasonic liposuction at the Swanson Center, one of the largest patient volumes in the country. Many of these patients have taken part in clinical studies evaluating the safety and effectiveness of liposuction and abdominoplasties.

The Swanson Center introduced the EpiTouch hair-removal laser to Kansas City in 1997 and the Cynosure® long-pulsed alexandrite Apogee® laser in 1998. Thousands of men and women have benefitted from this remarkable application of laser technology.

In 1998, Dr. Swanson built Kansas City’s first licensed, ambulatory surgery center specializing in cosmetic and laser surgery. The Center owns and operates a full complement of lasers and other cutting-edge equipment for the cosmetic surgery patient, including endoscopic equipment to minimize incisions and fat transfer instruments that make large volume injections for buttock augmentation possible. By having all the tools available, the Swanson Center is able to provide patients with the treatment that best suits their needs.

Patients benefit from the advantages of an on-site licensed surgery center. The anesthesia may be tailored to the needs of the cosmetic surgery patient, so that they spend less time in the recovery room and feel better after surgery.

In 2009, Dr. Swanson published his four-volume Ideal Look® book series dedicated to providing patients with the information they need, without marketing hype. The hard-cover volumes include hundreds of full-color before and after photographs and actual patient testimonials. For the patient considering cosmetic surgery, there can be no better resource.
