Swanson Center is Getting a Major Renovation
The Swanson Center, built in 1998, is getting a facelift. The office is undergoing a major
makeover after 25 years, including a completely renovated interior but the same high level of
service for our patients, and the same experienced staff specializing in the care of cosmetic
surgery patients. Construction started in January 2023 and is due for completion in July 2023.
The Swanson Center features an on-site state-licensed ambulatory surgery center, the Surgery
Center of Leawood.
New Laser for Hair Removal, Treatment of Leg Veins, and Brown Spots
The Swanson Center was one of the first centers to introduce lasers for cosmetic surgery to the
Kansas City area in 1995. The Cynosure Apogee laser is an excellent device for laser hair
removal, which the Swanson Center has offered since 1995. In 2023 it acquired the latest Apogee
Elite alexandrite and Nd:YAG laser for hair removal in patients with all skin types. This laser is
also ideal for treating leg veins, spider veins on the face, and brown spots. A cooling device
blows chilled air over the skin to make the treatments comfortable.

A Major Milestone in Publications – 200 Publications
For years, Dr. Swanson has been at the forefront of clinical research in plastic surgery. Dr.
Swanson has been prolific in scientific publications in the major plastic surgery journals. In May
2023, Dr. Swanson surpassed 200 publications in plastic surgery peer-reviewed publications (See
List of Publications). Patients are reassured that they are receiving the highest level of care from
a surgeon who has helped usher in a new age of evidence-based care in plastic surgery. Dr.
Swanson’s May 2023 article on Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) in 310 patients quickly rose to
become the most-viewed article in Annals of Plastic Surgery.

International Presentations
A highly sought speaker, Dr. Swanson was an invited international guest speaker at a major
meeting in São Paulo, Brazil, held June 7 to 10, 2023. Dr. Swanson gave 5 presentations at this
well-attended meeting of over 1000 plastic surgeons. The topics included: facelift, fat injection,
cosmetic breast surgery, and tummy tucks. Patient safety is a major focus of his work.
Dr. Swanson has been asked to return to Rome, Italy, in April 2024 as an invited speaker at the 9th
International Breast Surgery Workshop, having previously attended in 2021. In May 2019, Dr.
Swanson was an invited speaker at the Australian meeting in Melbourne (See List of
Presentations).

Upcoming 2023 American Society of Plastic Surgeons Meeting
Dr. Swanson is an invited speaker at the next meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, to be held in Austin, Texas October 26-29, 2023.
