DR. SWANSON ATTENDED MEDICAL SCHOOL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO, WHERE HE GRADUATED WITH HONORS AT THE AGE OF 22. IN 1988, HE COMPLETED A RESIDENCY IN PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO. DR. SWANSON STARTED HIS PRACTICE IN KANSAS CITY IN 1989.
